What each status means
ok- The crawler made it all the way through:
robots.txtallowed our user-agent, discovery found articles, and we fetched images. The score and percentage columns reflect the sampled images. robots_disallow- The site's
robots.txtexplicitly disallows theMetawatch/2.0user-agent (or all user-agents) at the site root. We respect this and skip the rest of the crawl, but we still readrobots.txtand probe the site-wide AI-preference files, so the publisher still appears in the AI prefs counts. blocked- The crawler could not retrieve content at some point in the pipeline — either the feed/sitemap fetch itself failed, or articles were discovered but most individual page fetches returned errors. Common causes: paywall, bot-protection layer (Cloudflare, Akamai, DataDome, TollBit, etc.), geo-restriction, or a CDN rule that distinguishes the site's root from its feed or article paths. The publisher detail page shows which phase was blocked and the vendor when we could positively fingerprint it.
discovery_parse_error- A sitemap or feed URL returned HTTP 200 but the body wasn't valid XML / RSS / Atom. Usually means the publisher's URL routing returns the HTML index page for unknown paths (SPA-style catch-all), or the feed is genuinely malformed.
no_articles_found- Sitemap or feed was reachable and parsed successfully, but contained no articles within our publication-date sampling window (most recent 30 days). Typical for sites that publish infrequently or whose sitemap only lists section landing pages rather than individual articles.
unreachable- We couldn't establish a connection at all — DNS resolution failed, the TCP connection was refused, or the TLS handshake didn't complete. The site may be down, may have relocated, or may be blocking our IP range entirely.
timeout- The server accepted our connection but didn't return a complete response within the crawl's per-site time budget. Usually indicates an overloaded origin or a CDN that hangs requests from unfamiliar user-agents.
